The Flower Kings are a Swedish progressive rock band formed in 1994 by guitarist and singer-songwriter Roine Stolt. The group began as Stolt's touring band to support his third solo album The Flower King. They continued performing after the tour and have gone on to become one of the most prolific studio recording units in progressive rock, having released nearly twenty hours of music spread across twelve studio albums

Your journey with The Flower Kings’ latest release, Space Revolver begins with traditional symphonic progressive rock – beautifully arranged keyboards, guitar and mellotron combine to start the trip in familiar prog territory. However, just when you start to settle into your headphones, you somehow realize that the boys in the band have taken an unexpected sharp turn at top speeds into the land of heavy metal (with an either conscious or subconscious nod to Black Sabbath’s Sweet Leaf ). There’s a lot of music to take in here, and this release is DEFINITELY one that will need multiple plays before the whole of the album sinks in the sonic conscious.

Sweden's The Flower Kings represent the finer elements of progressive rock as they artfully expound upon the early-'70s, much beloved British Canterbury Scene amid dashes of psychedelic rock and to a lesser extent, jazz fusion. With this 2000 release, the musicians continue their forward thinking ways, as they touch upon disparate elements amid complex arrangements and tenacious ensemble work along with the occasional nod to contemporary jazz, thanks to t Ulf Wallander's tasty soprano saxophone work. Simply stated, Space Revolver is a beautifully recorded opus. One that is brimming with ingenuity and the band's distinctive approach to a genre that often flounders within it's own sense of uncertainty.

Exclusive Prime pricing. The playing on this album is very good. I especially like keyboardist Tomas Bodin - he favors organic tone colors and his use of the mellotron does not hurt one bit. The drummer also turns in a fine performance here. My only minor complaints with respect to the playing include the bassist and the vocals/lyrics
