Bobo Stenson (born Bo Gustav Stenson, August 4, 1944) is a Swedish jazz pianist. The Bobo Stenson Trio, formed in collaboration with Anders Jormin (bass) and Jon Fält (drums), has been in existence for four decades. The 1970s was an intensive period for Bobo Stenson, playing in many groups, amongst them the long-standing band Rena Rama with Palle Danielsson, and a very popular trio with Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen; later also with Jan Garbarek. In 1988, he joined the Charles Lloyd quartet and since 1996 has appeared at major jazz festivals with Tomasz Stańko's septet/sextet. Witchi-Tai-To (ECM, 1973).

Two ensembles are heard here, the classic rsen-Christensen group augmented by Bobo Stenson on the exploratory Sart, and the spirited Jan Garbarek-Bobo Stenson Quartet, one of the most exciting groups of the era, on Witchi-Tai-To and Dansere . The birth of the latter group was very spontaneous – the Witchi-Tai-To session was originally projected as a Stenson date, with just Palle Danielsson and Christensen, but after Jan Garbarek had guested with Bobo’s trio at the 1973 Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw, the Swedish pianist proposed the quartet format instead.
