The Flatlanders - Now Again flac album

The Flatlanders are an American country band from Lubbock, Texas, United States, founded in 1972 by Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. The group garnered little success during their brief original incarnation from 1972 to 1973, but when the individual members found success in their solo careers, interest in The Flatlanders was rekindled with the band reuniting several times since. In 1998 they contributed to the soundtrack of The Horse Whisperer, and then in 2002 released their follow-up album, Now Again, on New West Records. In 2004 this was followed with Wheels of Fortune, again on New West. In 2004, New West released Live '72 a live recording of the then-unknown country band performing at the One Knite honky-tonk in Austin, Texas. In 2009, The Flatlanders released the album, Hills & Valleys.

With two exceptions, all the songs for Now Again were written collectively by the trio, and the material honors the three distinctive but complimentary personalities on board, from the easygoing roadhouse stomp of "Wavin' My Heart Goodbye" and the down-home metaphysics of "Down in the Light of the Melon Moon" to the bluesy lope of "Right Where I Belong" and the joyously.

Now Again, produced by Ely, marks the group's first album-length collaboration in 30 years. And if it lacks the charm of their first effort-there's nothing here that compares with Gilmore's "Dallas" and "Tonight I'm Gonna Go Downtown"-it still has a certain appeal that comes from putting three old friends together in the studio and rolling some tape.

Now Again (New West) In the spring of 1972, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, and Butch Hancock arrived in Nashville with their small band of Lubbock-based troubadours and a young man's wanderlust. The ensuing sessions yielded only a here-and-gone 8-track tape and a promotional single of Gilmore's now-classic "Dallas," though the group did manage to play the first Kerrville Folk Festival. Until 1990 that is, when Rounder Records released The Flatlanders, More a Legend Than a Band.
