Though Give 'Em Enough Rope takes away some of the raw sound, which many may disapprove of; it really shows the bands instrumental talen betters, something that many punk bands weren't too accomplished at during that time and it also displays Mick and Joe's vocals better than their debut. One of the major differences between this record and their self titled, is that this combines more of a rock sound to it, rather than just a raw punk feel  . It remains a classic album to me, but The Clash do have stronger albums like London Calling, but nevertheless, this is a strong album, no doubt. I highly recommend this album to any fan of punk or rock.

The teaming was quite controversial within the punk community, and the sound of Give 'Em Enough Rope is considerably cleaner, yet the more direct sound hardly tamed the Clash. While the record doesn't burn with the same intense, amateurish energy of The Clash, it does have a big, forceful sound that is nearly as powerful. What keeps Give 'Em Enough Rope from being a classic is its slightly inconsistent material.

Although Give ‘Em Enough Rope doesn’t pack quite the punch or purpose of the band’s debut, Safe European Home, Tommy Gun, and Drug-Stabbing Time show a growing synergy in the songwriting partnership between Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The rollicking R&B of Julie’s Been Working For the Drug Squad presages the stylistic breakthrough of London Calling, while English Civil War offers the band’s punk audience one last furious anthem. Produced by Blue Oyster Cult guru Sandy Pearlman, the Clash’s sophomore album was a conscious attempt to give the band a more commercial sound. Although Give ‘Em Enough Rope doesn’t pack quite the punch or purpose of the band’s debut, Safe European Home, Tommy Gun, and Drug-Stabbing Time show a growing synergy in the songwriting partnership between Joe Strummer and Mick Jones.

Gene Grief stole the design credit from the artist Hugh Brown who designed this cover - Grief made minor alterations to Brown's work and CBS credited Grief, their inhouse artist. Brown gets an obscure reference on the second release. The sleeve is Brown's work not Grief's.

Talk about The Clash - Give 'Em Enough Rope

Yellow Judge
Can't believe the prices on this album are cheap. A record store in Lancaster/Ohio has this album for $100.00 can't believe that.
Gavidor
This was hard for me to Verify First Pressing but soon was able to. The C and B at the end of the numbers is rotated 90 degrees out from the last numbers. So spin the Record 90 degrees and you will faintly see the C and B. Barely
Siatanni
I have a 1st pressing & they are very thin, but mine came with the double-sided promo poster.
Moralsa
Did you buy it new at time of release? I am trying to establish how many had the poster enclosed.
Whitecaster
Rather thin slice of wax for a 1st press UK. Still, the album kicks ass.
