Robin Phillips OC (28 February 1940 – 25 July 2015) was an English actor and film director. He was born in Haslemere, Surrey in 1940 to Ellen Anne (née Barfoot) and James William Phillips. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic, where a contemporary was Patrick Stewart, and worked as an actor and director for many years in the United Kingdom, finishing as artistic director at the Greenwich Theatre from 1973 to 1975.
He Was a Friend of Mine" is a traditional folk song in which the singer laments the death of a friend. Alan Lomax, first to collect the song, in 1939, described it as a "blues" that was "a dirge for a dead comrade. The earliest known version of the song is titled "Shorty George" (Roud 10055).
A friend of mine is a little more "distant" or non-specific about the person. Examples: My friend Kalinda lives in Washington. A friend of mine from college lives in Wash. In the second sentence, we don’t say the friend’s name if it’s not so important in the context of the conversation. When introducing someone, you can use either my friend or a friend of mine: This is my friend Kalinda. This is Kalinda, a friend of mine from college. Notice that my friend comes before the name, and a friend of mine comes after the name, as a description giving more information. Clear up your doubts about confusing word. nd use English more confidently!
He is a member of the board of the Barbican Arts Centre and the Council of Aldeburgh Music; and a trustee of the Social Mobility Foundation, among other charities. Phillips is a former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and a former television presenter and executive. Phillips became head of the Commission for Racial Equality in 2003, and on its abolition in 2006 was appointed full-time chairman of its successor, the EHRC (initially called the Commission for Equality and Human Rights), which had a broader remit of combating discrimination and promoting equality across.
