Gregg Gillis has been cutting up and gluing bits and pieces of songs together as a DJ in Pittsburgh since his 2002 debut, Secret Diary, an album that, though a lot of easily identifiable samples (the Price Is Right theme, for example) were used, was so delayed and skipped and glitched that it was too obfuscated to do much in the mainstream

On NIGHT RIPPER, Girl Talk has perfected his unique blend of sample-collation. The album flows smooth, like a river of melted chocolate. The individual tracks don't stand out, but they're not meant to. This is as much about the blend as it about the groove. A few mixes pop, however, like the MIA/Kanye West/Candyman monstrosity of "Summer Smoke" or "Bounce That," which sounds recurs again on this next album, FEED THE ANIMALS

All Day is the fifth studio album by American musician Gregg Gillis, known by his stage name Girl Talk. The album was originally released as a free digital download by Illegal Art on November 15, 2010. Gillis composed the album using overlapping samples of 372 songs by other artists.

The album Night Ripper has some of the best mash ups i've ever heard  . If you've never heard Girl Talk, you really need to hear this guy. The album Night Ripper has some of the best mash ups i've ever heard. Ludacris and Boston, Elton John and Notorious BIG. Just check out this album, seriously. Jan 6, 2007, 12:54 PM.

Girl Talk ~ Night Ripper.

Label: Illegal Art. After two albums spent cutting up hits with glitch beats, Girl Talk struck gold with Night Ripper, finding a broad fan base for his po-mo pop and becoming a figurehead in the "copyleft" movement, which posits sampling as an art form in its own right. Inspired by acts like the Beastie Boys, Night Ripper combines beats and loops from hundreds of songs into a seamless flow

The Mashup genre is usually a hit or miss ordeal. The complex is simple on paper: Take 2 or more songs from completely different artists, throw them in a blender, and hit the purée button. Night Ripper does not succeed because of it’s sampling. It doesn’t succeed because it is catchy. It succeeds because it is inventive, original, and thoroughly addictive. Gillis manages to chop up so many different samples, from all across the board, that the results sound nothing like the original

The album's positive reception boosted Gillis' popularity and reputation, and Night Ripper has been described as his breakthrough album. Following the album's release, American musician Beck asked Gillis to open for him at a concert in London.

All Day is the fifth studio album by American mashup musician Girl Talk. Containing 373 different samples, All Day is Girl Talk's longest release to date, clocking in at exactly 71 minutes. Unlike other Girl Talk albums, All Day has yet to receive a release in any physical format
