Kunk - Rip Off flac album

Off! is the second album by the band Off! It was released on May 8, 2012 by Vice Records on CD and LP and by Burger Records on cassette. All tracks written by Dimitri Coats and Keith Morris. Off! Kunk feels like a more modernized version of Generic Flipper. That may sound interesting (Flipper is very good, after all), but Dope Body's songwriting and consistency are way off in comparison. Even compared to their own last few albums, many of Kunk's songs are weak. Despite my gripes, Kunk is still one of the more unique rock albums of 2015. It's short and disheveled, and isn't afraid to throw a strange. Or consider a donation?

Earlier this week we highlighted some recent examples of plagiarism in the metal album cover artwork world. While they were pretty obvious once pointed out it definitely took a trained eye to notice them in the first place, as most of the examples featured single elements of covers that were lifted, oftentimes modified, and then dropped into larger pieces.

But, that isn't Kunk. It plays in their favour that Dope Body write from a new perspective, but the path they take leads into directionless territory far too often. First off is 'Casual', which has an exciting feedback rhythm that pushes things off in a snarl. It hints at a cathartic end that we could expect from the similar sounding Liars or Thee Oh Sees, but really just ends up getting tangled in the exact same drum beat at the end as where it began. The swampy bass sounds great, and makes a return on 'Dad'

Maryland's Dope Body recorded the basic tracks for Kunk at the same sessions that became 2014's Lifer. Noisy as hell, this Maryland duo combine a wealth of influences - Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, the Cramps, Royal Trux, Jesus Lizard, Pissed Jeans, etc - in a (mostly) sludge-drenched set of bent grooves and twisted riffs.
