To wit, Something for the Weakened, the third album by Edinburgh-based septet Meursault. Its two full-length predecessors brought together programmed beats and swelling indie-rock with emotionally tender lyrical subject matter. Mamie, towards the end of the album, patters along with minimal piano and cello backing, the frontman imploring, Give me the word and I will gladly go to sleep. What this isn’t, you understand, is ‘lo-fi’ in the sense of an unclear or amateurish recording – captured in a proper studio for the first time, arrangements are spacious and complementary.

Edinburgh based band Meursault are due to release their third album Something For the Weakened. It will be released on 16th July on CD, vinyl and download via Song, by Toad Records. It will also feature as a boxset which will include vinyl copies of the singles and the album, a CD of demos, a t-shirt, tote bag and lyrics book. Matthew Young of Song, By Toad described the album a. ather different to previous Meursault stuff. Not so lo-fi, with lusher strings, and rather more of a thumping indie-rock (horrible term, I know) vibe where the big, loud tunes are concerned
