Party Mix! is a 1981 remix album by The B-52's, released in between their second album Wild Planet and the Mesopotamia EP. On the original vinyl, this six-song collection contained songs from their first two albums remixed and sequenced to form two long tracks, one on each side. On the CD version, however, all the songs feature their own tracks. In the US, Party Mix! and a 1990 remix version of Mesopotamia were combined onto one CD, released in 1991

Mention the phrase "Love Shack" and anyone you're talking to will immediately know to what you're referencing. Few songs stick in the brain with such lasting power, fond memories, and sing-a-long potential as the B-52's blissful 1989 smash, one of the many moments that make the band's Cosmic Thing such a timeless affair. The B-52’s spent the last part of the ‘70s and the first half of the ‘80s as one of the coolest, goofiest groups around, forging a solid reputation as a fun-time party band through such singles as Rock Lobster, Private Idaho, and so on down the line, but with the death of founding member Ricky Wilson in 1985
On paper, it sounds like a cerebral exercise, but it played like a party. The jerky, angular funk was irresistibly danceable, winning over listeners dubious of Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson's high-pitched, shrill close harmonies and Fred Schneider's campy, flamboyant vocalizing, pitched halfway between singing and speaking. These songs illustrated that the B-52's' adoration of camp culture wasn't simply affectation - it was a world view capable of turning out brilliant pop singles and, in turn, influencing mainstream pop culture. It's difficult to imagine the endless kitschy retro fads of the '80s and '90s without the B-52's pointing the way, but The B-52's isn't simply an historic artifact - it's a hell of a good time.
Compilation, Julho 1981, WEA. Tracklist. Re-Issued in 1991 with a remix of the Mesopotamia EP on the same disc. 1. Party Out of Bounds (Remix). 2. Private Idaho (Remix). 3. Give Me Back My Man (Remix). 5. Dance This Mess Around (Remix). Bonustracks (Mesopotamia EP (Re-Issue 1991)).
The B-52’s came out sounding raw and live because Blackwell wanted to accurately capture their electric sound in the rock clubs, which had won rabid fans with its danceability and maximal minimalism. It got them mentioned in the same breath as post-punk heavyweights Devo and Wire as art-punk on its release. Side A concludes with Rock Lobster, which remains the world’s unlikeliest novelty party song. It’s constructed like prog rock, sounds like the avant-garde, has surreal lyrics and one of pop’s most memorable guitar riffs. Several distinct sections make up the song’s nearly seven minutes. After that stupid guitar kicks things off, Pierson and Cindy Wilson chime in with skee-do-be-dop and Schneider starts telling the story of this beach party where someone finds a rock lobster. Don’t ask him why, but things are going to get weird because of that.
