Both earlier bands were in the prog rock genres and known for their solos and lighting (and smoke). They became Misex after the punk explosion in an effort to stay contemporary. Their debut single was on EMI, before moving to Australia, where their earlier history (including 's earlier career as a cabaret and covers singer) was unknown, and immediately broke with which was number one at the end of 1979.

Mitchell Thomas Laddie (born 24 September 1990) is an English guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer from Consett, County Durham. He was born in Shotley Bridge, County Durham, and raised in Ebchester. Blues & Soul has described Laddie as "the most exciting young blues player of the current bunch and probably the only serious prospect for major global success this country has produced in several decades". His 2012 full-length album Burning Bridges also won Blues & Soul's "Album Of The Year".

Mi-Sex (also spelt MiSex) is a New Zealand new wave rock band that was originally active from 1977 to 1986. Led by Steve Gilpin as vocalist, Kevin Stanton as guitarist and songwriter and Don Martin as bassist, they were best known for their singles "Computer Games" in 1979 and "People" in 1980. They were also known for their cutting edge production and dynamic live shows Awards

A second album, 1980's Space Race, was also a hit, but when a planned American tour fell through, Mi-Sex's momentum took a serious blow; even at home, audiences were dwindling, and 1981's Shanghaied made little impact. Hodgkinson soon exited, to be replaced by ex-Coup D'Etat drummer Paul Dunningham; a few minor hits followed, including "Castaway" and "Blue Day," but after 1984's Where Do They Go? failed to crack the charts, Mi-Sex disbanded.

Misex were nothing-much prog-rockers who tried to co-opt punk rock by speeding their twiddly-widdly crap up and singing it in a mockney accent. Straight Laddie’ ain’t gonna make anyone forget about the Ramones. Hell, it makes the Lurkers sound like Black Flag.
