Horizontal is the fourth studio album by the Bee Gees, and their second album to receive an international release. The LP was released in early 1968, and included the international hit singles "Massachusetts" and "World". On 5 February 2007, Reprise Records reissued Horizontal with both stereo and mono mixes on one disc and a bonus disc of unreleased songs, non-album tracks, and alternate takes. The album was released in Polydor in many countries and on Atco only in the US and Canada

The group's second album, cut late in 1967 amid their first major British success, is less focused than their first, but also presents a more majestic sound than its predecessor. The opening track, "World," is a poignant, even somber yet gorgeous ballad filled with clever lyrics, and highlighted by a quavering Mellotron accompaniment, a very close grand piano sound (anticipating elements of the Odessa album), and twangy fuzz-tone guitar. And the Sun Will Shine" is an even more serious, regretful ballad that is bearable because it is also prettier than "World.

If Bee Gees' 1st was a paisley-clad peppermint candy, then Horizontal would be a corduroy butterscotch showing an aged maturity and sophistication. Not to mention a little bit of heaviness. Led by their super hit "Massachusetts", the album sticks close to the baroque orchestral pop from their first album, but mixes soulful ballads and blues influenced rock into their Gibb Pop Stew. This album brings back so many memories as my generation grew up to each of these songs and I highly recommend this album to any and everyone.
