If you're afraid of commitment, Miditerranean Pads might not be for you. To get the music's full effect, it is recommended that you turn off the lights, fire up a big candle (a lava lamp'll do in a pinch), and let Klaus Schulze's kaleidoscopic arrangements weave their magic. But - and here's where the commitment part comes in - the disc runs just over 70 minutes, which might tax the limits of the novice navel-gazer.

Only for completionists (15%). Miditerranean Pads stems from a Schulze period that I'm not too enthusiastic about. I didn't like this album one bit when I first heard it 15 years ago. Nevertheless, I picked it up from the library again to see if I would find myself being proven wrong again by the ever changing and frivolous nature of my taste. I have to note a slight change in positive directions towards the opening track.

Miditerranean Pads is the twenty-first album by Klaus Schulze. It was originally released in 1990, and in 2005 was the twelfth Schulze album reissued by Revisited Records. This is the first of two reissues not to feature a bonus track (the other being Dosburg Online), though the first track is extended by two minutes. All tracks composed by Klaus Schulze. German electronic music pioneer Klaus Schulze ushered in the '90s with "Miditerranean Pads", his 16th solo album. For this project, Klaus adopted heavy usage of sampling alongside percussive and orchestral elements. In comparison to his classic work in the 70s, "Miditerranean Pads" has a more subdued sound but is still full of aggression. The musical style heard here would become the norm for Klaus until the mid to late 90s when he would adopt a more rhythmic techno approach

Talk about Klaus Schulze - Miditerranean Pads

Kadar
One definately needs some familiarity with Schulze's work to fully appreciate this one, i.e. if you're new to KS: save this one for later. The opening track heavily emphasizes Klaus' affinity for percussion driven atmospheric soundscapes, engulving the listener with a seemingly endless stream of sequenced, evermore intertwining drumloops. Track 2, the title-track is an opera piece; beautiful but somewhat sad. The closing track with its trance-inducing repetetive vox chords is KS at his best, showcasing his genius as a percussionist 'pur sang'.

I agree, you really need to be someone that has listened to plenty of his earlier records. I really dislike the 2 track only because it has vocals and I'm not a fan of vocals, except when if they heavily disguised w/ a vocoder (Dig It). The other two tracks, #1 and #3 are excellent though. Good record! Also, didn't realize these were drum loops...if so, WOW! That's impressive drum programming.
