Album Shakedown Street. Shakedown Street Lyrics. You tell me this town ain't got no heart (Well, well, well, you can never tell) The sunny side of the street is dark (Well, well, well, you can never tell) Maybe that's because it's midnight In the dark of the moon besides. Maybe the dark is from your eyes (Maybe the dark is from your eyes) You know you got such dark eyes! Nothing shaking on Shakedown Street Used to be the heart of town Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart You just got to poke around.

Shakedown Street's title track shows the Dead adapting shockingly well to the disco era, transforming their normal rhythmic interplay into a slick, grooving strut. The remainder of the album sees them tackling similarly funky sounds. The rough-edged blues of "I Need a Miracle" and the Caribbean-tinged "Fire On the Mountain" would become setlist staples, and their Latin-flavored version of The Rascals' '60s rock classic "Good Lovin'" is one of the band's most beloved covers. I think 'Shakedown Street' is a fine album. If this had been a, let's just say, Fleetwood Mac album, it would have garnered universal praise. But because it is the Grateful Dead and it does not have that "live" feel to it, Deadheads and critics are often very quick to write this album off as useless
