They pray as though God were the giver but not the gift. They pray for protection, and shelter, and food, and clothing, and health, and peace, and prosperity, and social justice, and comfort, and happiness. The heartbeat is always that the supremely treasured Christ be supremely magnified in answer to every prayer. Praying for Protection. For example, every prayer for protection (if miners are trapped underground, or soldiers are going into battle, or Christians are leaving on mission, or sons and daughters are heading for college, or police are in harm’s way, or hostages are threatened with death, or children are playing where bullets fly) - every Christian prayer for protection should be a prayer for the best.

Will you pray that God enlighten his mind so that he truly see the beauty of Christ and believe? If you pray this, you are in effect asking God no longer to leave the determination of the man’s will in his own power. You are asking God to do something within the man’s mind (or heart) so that he will surely see and believe. Only the person who rejects human self-determination can consistently pray for God to save the lost. My prayer for unbelievers is that God will do for them what he did for Lydia: He opened her heart so that she gave heed to what Paul said (Acts 16:14). I will pray that God, who once said, Let there be light! will by that same creative power shine in their hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6). I will pray that he will take out their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.

Does God Answer Prayer? In the past when I prayed, it was almost always for God to help me. This wouldn’t be a bad thing, except after praying I didn’t listen for His answer and it was selfishly motivated. God always provides answers, in His time not in mine.

It started with the uneasy situation in Iran to the news about Jon minus Kate, and then on to the deaths of Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. When we write out our sin list, we usually include the sins of others and omit our own. Yesterday when I was reading the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 7:4 jumped out at me again: How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? The phrase, look down means to despise with contempt and to treat as nothing. They were obnoxiously self-righteous and looked at everyone else as nobodies.

God answers prayer IN HIS OWN POWER (Eph 3:20). God often waits until the situation is humanly impossible before He answers (Mark 10:27). He waited until Zacharias and Elizabeth were old (v. 7) when it was impossible for them to have children  . D.
