The NME once reckoned there was a clock inside John Beltran's head stuck fast at 5 am. It was because his music appeared to inhabit a pre-dawn state between the dancefloor and the soon to be sex or dream-soaked duvet, a special area where soft rhythm and ticking sensuality were neatly intertwined. John was brought up on classical, jazz and latin at home - early sonic memories include John Coltrane, Tito Puente and Bach.

In 1999, Beltran released a self-titled album on Transmat as part of the production trio Indio. He resumed releasing albums under his own name with two albums in 2002, Americano (Exceptional) and Sun Gypsy (Ubiquity), followed by In Full Color (also Ubiquity) in 2004. A more ambient album titled Human Engine appeared on Milan in 2006.

John Beltran will release a new album, First Blue Sky, as Placid Angles via Magicwire this March. The double LP is the Michigan producer's first release as Placid Angles since 1997, when he released a sole album on Peacefrog, The Cry. There's not much information about First Blue Sky, though clips imply the project picks up where it left off 22 years ago. It follows a recent Beltran EP for ong under his own name as well as the launch of a series of EPs dedicated to the seasons of the year, released via his own Bandcamp.
