Uncle Jamm's Army is a former American hip-hop crew based in Los Angeles, California in the 1980s. Their singles "What's Your Sign", "Dial-a-Freak", and "Yes, Yes, Yes" were influential to the electro, old school hip hop, and early West Coast hip-hop genres. But they needed a name, a name that would catch everyone's attention. Later that year Funkadelic released an album entitled Uncle Jam Wants You. The name Uncle Jamm's Army hit home and was adopted. The group became the number-one dance promoters and DJs on the West Coast of the United States. Before forming Unique Dreams and Uncle Jamm's Army, Rodger spun records for a mobile DJ organization called LSD formed by Larry Grisby.

Funkadelic is the debut album by the American funk band Funkadelic, released in 1970 on Westbound Records. The album showcases a strong bass and rhythm section, as well as lengthy jam sessions, future trademarks of the band. The album contains two remakes of songs from The Parliaments, an earlier band featuring George Clinton: "I'll Bet You" and "Good Old Music".
Still, Uncle Jam has enough foot-stomping grooves and curveballs to keep the serious Afunkcionado tapping his toes til the mothership returns. The CD starts off with "Freak of the Week," and segues nicely into one of the great funk jams of all time, "(Not Just) Knee-Deep. The overlooked gem on this CD is "Holly Wants To Go To California," which can only be described here as a curios mix of funk, gospel and something snatched from a high school musical.
