Joan Armatrading's Shouting Stage was her best album since 1980's Me Myself I. Album The Shouting Stage. The Shouting Stage Lyrics. I thought we had it sweet But your mind's played A trick on me I thought that I'd be with you All the time And I'd be fine Yeah I'd be fine. I'll swear you have my feelings Under thought control I know you've taken Such a hold on me I'm thinking more and more Of what we had before. Before we lost it At the shouting stage Before the days we'd sit there Side by side Without a word And how that hurt. How could eternal love Made above We were so in love We were joined.

Most of Joan Armatrading's songs are not about things that happened to her, but are based on observations. This one was inspired by a couple she encountered who were sitting at a table in a restaurant in Australia. In our interview with Armatrading, she said: "They were having an argument that just escalated, just got louder and louder, and then in the end the guy just got up and walked out and the woman was in tears  . Armatrading wrote, produced and arranged all the tracks on the album. More songs from Joan Armatrading. More songs about heartache. More songs with famous guest musicians. More songs Mark Knopfler played on. More songs from 1988. Lyrics to The Shouting Stage.
