Your chance to hear the Vaselines' brilliant comeback album before it's released. Twenty years ago, when the Vaselines released their debut album Dum-Dum, they were a charmingly shambolic indie outfit. Well, two decades later the band are finally getting round to releasing a follow up, and boy have things changed. OK, things haven't really changed that much. Not for the band, at least – the cheekily titled Sex With An X (Frances McKee and Eugene Kelly used to be a couple) is as wonderfully scrappy and naive as ever
Twenty years in the making, the second Vaselines album is here. Behol. Sex With An X. THE PAST. Formed in Glasgow in 1987, The Vaselines released two singles and one album, Dum Dum, on the 53rd & 3rd label. Splitting up in 1989 (in the same week their album was released), they might have faded into obscurity but for the intervention of a certain band from Seattle. Nirvana covered three Vaselines songs, helping to fuel a growing after-the-fact appreciation of their seedy, two-and-a-half chord, garage pop manifesto.
V for Vaselines is the third studio album by the Scottish alternative rock band The Vaselines. It was recorded at Castle of Doom studios in Glasgow and was released in the UK on 29 September 2014 and in the US on 7 October 2014 through The Vaselines' own label, Rosary Music. The album's sound was partially inspired by the Ramones, after Eugene Kelly went to see a Ramones cover band in Glasgow.
Nirvana would go on to cover the Vaselines' "Molly's Lips" and "Son of a Gun" (both later compiled on their Incesticide collection) as well as performing "Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam" on their now-legendary MTV Unplugged appearance. Renewed interest in the band resulted in the 1992 Sub Pop release of The Way of the Vaselines, an assemblage of all 19 of their official recordings
