Els Pets are one of the few surviving bands from the short-lived early-'90s phenomenon known as rock català, or Catalan rock. Defined by their love of '60s English pop, particularly the Beatles, and soul music, their records are straightforward, uninhibited, and joyful, with lyrics dealing with universal topics such as love, society, or sex in a free-and-easy style. 1991 saw the release of their sophomore album, Calla i Balla, on the label Discmedi, which marked the beginning of an ongoing collaboration with guitarist and producer Marc Grau. The supporting tour included 80 concerts in four months alongside Catalan bands Sau, Sangtraït, and Sopa de Cabra, with multitudinous shows culminating at Barcelona's Palau Sant Jordi. Fruits Sex followed in 1992 with a surge in sales that earned them the Most Popular Band Award from Radio 4 and consolidated them as standard-bearers of rock català.

Els Pets" is a Catalan pop rock band with lead singer, composer and guitarist Lluís Gavaldà from the village of Constantí (Tarragona). Joan Reig plays drums and Falin Cáceres bass. At present, the band has the collaboration of the musicians Jordi Picazos (guitar and mandolin), Marc Grasas (singer, guitar) and Joan Pau Chaves, who plays keyboard. Two years after, they recorded Calla i Balla! (DiscMedi, 1991), the second album. They achieved a better sound and became stronger in their local criticism with songs like "Tarragona M'esborrona" (in English, "Tarragona horrifies me") or "Constantí, Molta Merda I Poc Vi". This trend is maintained in the following album Fruits Sex (DiscMedi, 1992), through which they reached the sound quality that defines the first period, adding to the band the guitarist Marc Grau (the producer of the group) and the pianist Toni Saigi. From 1994 to 1999: Consolidation.

The band Els Pets was formed in 1985 in Constantí, by Lluís Gavaldà, Joan Reig and Falin Cáceres. Two female voices joined them, Les Llufes. The first album is named like the name of the group, and appears in 1989. It is a mix of rockabilly and ska, among other genres. Two years after, they recorded Calla i Balla! ("Shut up and dance", DiscMedi, 1991), the second album. They achieved a better sound and became stronger in their local criticism with songs like Tarragona M'esborrona (in English, "Tarragona horrifies me") or Constantí, Molta Merda I Poc Vi (Constantí, a Lot of Shit and Little Wine).
