Still, the best moments - Earle rocking through "In the Jailhouse Now," Nelson's "Peach Pickin' Time Down in Georgia," Dylan's "Sweet Liza Jane" - do everything they should: they deliver a great performance that is enjoyable on its own terms, yet makes you want to go back to the original artist.

The songs on the album are older then my grandma yet pleasantly pleasing to even modern music lovers. Did you know that Jimmie Rodgers (1897 - 1933) is considered "The Father of Country Music" and that he was one of the first three people elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame? I didn't know anything about this man until I stumbled upon this album. Like the Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly Tribute this album has well selected artists who do an excellent job of performing Jimmie Rodgers' tunes. I grew up listening to Jimmie Rodgers and these all are great intrepretations of his music. This tribute album was put together by Bob Dylan, and released on Dylan’s own Egyptian label. The album had originally been scheduled for an early 1996 release, but faced several delays, and was finally held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rodgers’ birth. The album was mentioned as early as April 1995 in Propaganda magazine where they mentioned Bono sang and Larry drummed on a track called Dreaming with Tears in My Eyes, which they recorded in Dublin.
