Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham. Along with Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, the band's heavy, guitar-driven sound has led them to be cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal. Their style drew from a wide variety of influences, including blues, psychedelia and folk music.
Each concert is attended by representatives of the top music papers and prominent officials of their record company. Ten hectic days followed during which they got the sound together, cut an album and prepared for a tour of Scandinavia. At the end of those ten days, Led Zeppelin was an established fact. The Scandinavia tour was a hit. They came back to Britain for a time. Living on the name of the Yardbirds as Robert say, then they set off for America.
Led Zeppelin finally put their catalog on this site this month, allowing users of the service to stream their entire catalog. Led Zeppelin's second album was recorded during the precious little downtime they had on their endless 1969 world tour. It took them months to record in studios all across America and Europe, yet somehow it sounds cohesive. The track listing almost reads like a greatest hits collection: "Whole Lotta Love," "Thank You," "Heartbreaker," "What Is And What Should Never Be" and "Bring It On Home.
Led Zeppelin II starts off with Whole Lotta Love, the best song on the album; then goes to What Is And What Should Never Be, the second best on the album. Third is The Lemon Song, which has one of, if not THE best bass solo in classic rock. Fourth is Thank You, one of the more mellow and beautiful songs on the album. This is the only Zeppelin album where I don't feel the need to skip a single track on it any time I listen to it. On the debut I would skip Black Mountain Side. On III, I would skip most of the second side.
