Automator ‎– A Much Better Tomorrow. Label: 75 Ark ‎– 75006. Mastered at Masterdisk, New York, NY. From back cover: "I released The Better Tomorrow EP in 1996. It came out about the same time I released another LP entitled Dr. Octagon. I have added several vintage tracks to make it into an LP. These tracks give a pretty good picture of what I was doing in 1996. Track 3: DJ Q-Bert written as DJ Qbert on the back sleeve. On the inside sleeve as DJ Q-Bert.

A Much Better Tomorrow Tracklist. 1. A Better Tomorrow (Ft. Kool Keith) Lyrics. Featuring Kool Keith. Produced by Dan the Automator.

Even more optimistic for the future after the passage of three years, Dan Nakamura expanded his Better Tomorrow EP out to a full-length with the addition of a host of tracks recorded around the same time. Sinister 6000 (aka Kool Keith) freestyles over half of the tracks, rehearsing for the duo's collaboration later that year on the Dr. Octagon LP. Except for the occasional eerie cinema sample though, the sound is decidedly different from Dr. Octagon

Automator’s production sound on A Much Better Tomorrow is comprised of ambient, newer hip-hop samples and older, jazzier samples. In a world where mainstream Hip-Hop beats are comprised of kiddie synths and hand claps (Lean with it, Rock with it anyone"), this production sticks out like a sore thumb (granted this is hardly mainstream). While the album houses great instrumental tracks, the vocal tracks outnumber (and out-good) the instrumentals. Automator’s production takes a backseat to the superb guest vocals; featuring mostly Kool Keith handling Emcee duties (On 6 of 8 vocal tracks) the raps on AMBT put (most of) the mainstream rap scene to shame. If anyone ever tells me rap doesn’t take any skill I will force them to listen to opening and title track, A Better Tomorrow.

Daniel M. Nakamura (born August 29, 1966), better known by the stage name Dan the Automator, is an American record producer, songwriters, and artist. He also founded independent record label Bulk Recordings. For over two decades, he has created progressive, genre-warping music on his terms. 2019’s Booksmart), he has disregarded accepted convention and fleeting trends.

On the whole, A Much Better Tomorrow turns out to prove itself much better than a lot of what has been produced then AND now. The beats are creative, the arrangements are well executed, and the whole album is an experience even more satisfactory than classics in the genre like Octagon. Any fan will be more than satisfied with this purchase, and even those who are new to the scene should find something to enjoy.

classic kool keith tracks over top notch production here!! Must-Have!!

The Much Better Tomorrow was a classic release in its own right, albeit one whose genius was sadly overlooked. This adds a few bonus tracks to turn it into an LP, the results being half an album being a Kool Keith album as good as Dr Octagon and Sex Style, and half an album of patchy filler. Best of the previously unreleased tracks has to be Cartoon Capers, with Keith rapping about hanging out with Charlie Brown and Snoopy and stripteasing Penelope Pitstop!

This LP is an extended version of the 'A Better Tomorrow' EP (Ubiquity Records, 1996). The new tracks were recorded around the same time as the original EP, which was also the period he was working on the Dr. Octagon album with Kool Keith.

To me this is like the sequel to Dr. Octagon. It's in the same style as Dr. Octagon and was recorded at the same time. Automator lays down some fat beats while Kool Keith lays down the fat lyrics along with some help from Neph The Madman and Poet. Some stands out tracks are A Better Tomorrow, Sleep, and Buck Buck. Highly recommended for Automator or Kool Keith Fans!
