The Syn biography Active from 1965 to 1967, without issuing any record - Reformed around Steve Nardelli in 2004. The Syn was one of the first bands in the London early prog scene and its history is intimately related to YES' origin and therefore it was fundamental to the development of prog. Originally, the band was formed by school mates Steve Nardelli (lead vocals) and John Painter (guitar) around 1965, playing R&B covers. This reunion resulted in the band's first full length album, Syndestructible, in 2005, as well as a 2CD compilation called The Original Syn featuring material from the 60's including the group's original singles as well as demos, a new epic song and an interview. A tour followed that would result in a live concert DVD called Syndestructible Tour 2006 (that also features Yes drummer Alan White).

Only for completionists (0%). Yes men) pay their dues. The Syn, and their related bands who are also featured on this album, came and went in the 1960s making little impression along the way. They made decent but unremarkable pop, perhaps even at times proto-prog in the way attributed to bands such as The Beatles, Clouds and Kaleidoscope

Confusingly, this two-CD set is an entirely different compilation than the similarly titled Original Syn 1965-2004 double CD that came out the following year, even though most of the tracks appear on both releases. This package is the better one by a slim margin, though it's aggravatingly vague about the dates and sources of some of the cuts. Certainly most of disc one does originate from '60s recordings, including both sides of their two singles, "Grounded"/"Created by Clive" and "14 Hour Technicolor Dream"/"Flowerman.

If there was one aspect about Cardinal Syn that I loved, this was it. I loved the ambience of this soundtrack, from the anguished moans of Bimorphia's former fellow asylum inmates to the rowdy cheers of the crowd in Khan's stage to even the chirping of birds and insects in Juni's stage. The orchestration of these songs is something that most players often overlook in this game, which is kind of sad, considering how this is one of the most underrated soundtracks in PlayStation history.
