Open the Door is the fourth album by Roger Hodgson, released in May 2000 by Epic Records and his third and most recent studio one (and his first studio release since 1987). Open the Door was recorded mostly in France and features mostly French musicians, many who have played on Excalibur (La Légende Des Celtes) also produced by Simon featuring contributions from Hodgson, as his backup band. This is Hodgson's only solo album to be partially recorded outside the United States.

Hearing the door open, he was about to give the intruder an irritated look before he sees you enter with two cups of iced tea. Oh, hey, he greets as he stands up and pecks your cheek before returning back to the computer. Setting down the cups, you took a seat on top of the table. Freddie’s mother seems absolutely delighted to see Ash at the door when she opens it, a few weeks after the album’s recording, on the morning of Freddie’s birthday. She quickly wraps the girl up in a hug, and Ash hugs her back tightly.

During that tour, Hodgson dipped into the Supertramp catalog and this seemed to free him of his ghosts, because Open the Door is the closest thing to Supertramp since. Hodgson still experiments with his music on this release (the title track, for example), but here it is couched in much more melodic tunes and personal lyrics. Also, the music has a tinge of a French style to it. Perhaps he was influenced by the French countryside, in which this album was recorded (Les Sorinieres, France); he used French artists as his backup band.
