The album has a strong start. The short, atmospheric synth instrumental track ‘Wake,’ which opens up the album, instantly lets you know about the group’s newly developed sound of the record. This transitions straight into the fast and bright ‘Sinner,’ the lead single of the album, which has delightfully catchy and anthemic chorus, which I’m sure will be a great festival track this summer. Deaf Havana are still an exciting emerging UK band, and I’m eagerly waiting to see how the grow in the future. In short, RITUALS is decent, but I cannot help think that it could have been great. Rituals is the result of throwing out the ‘Deaf Havana rulebook’: first frontman and lyricist James Veck-Gilodi picked the song titles, second; he wrote tracks that fit the theme of those titles, third; everything was written on the computer, then the band came in to play all the parts. He was forced to dig deep into his past to find inspiration for the album having moved on from his anxiety and alcohol ridden past. Fans may be surprised to find songs about redemption and overcoming personal demons rather than tales of debauchery and self-loathing

Rituals’ announcement came as a bit of a surprise. Barely a year after the incredible All These Countless Nights, an album that combined the bands’ previous two efforts into something that felt a bit like the ‘definitive’ Deaf Havana album, the British rockers released ‘Sinner’. Showcasing new territory for the band, the new album’s lead single boasts a massive chorus and is unapologetically ‘pop’
