Making a point to keep within the same boundaries that made its predecessor so successful, Smurfs Go Pop Again is jumping with giddy tunes and stories about Smurfs who yodel, roller blade, shout, take sunny afternoon walks, and in "Line Dance Smurf" not only engage in the forbiddenly square activity but also show off one of their most engaging tunes to date and. make it sound pretty hip. Behind the music are lyrics with positive values that teach respect for different races, family, and in "Grandpa Smurf We Love You," the elderly.

The Smurfs Go Pop! is an album of songs by The Smurfs, released in 1996. Most of the songs are cover versions of existing songs with altered lyrics. Some of the songs function as simple Smurf sing-a-longs ("Smurfs are Back") while others have more of an apparent satirical intent ("The Noisy Smurf"). I've Got a Little Puppy" was released as a single in the UK and reached number 4 in the Official UK Top 40 Single Charts in September 1996.

Several popular Smurfs LPs were released, the first of which (Father Abraham in Smurfland) was created by Dutch musician Pierre Kartner, who sings under the alias Father Abraham. His single "The Smurf Song" reached the position in 16 countries. While held off the top spot in the UK by "You're The One That I Want", the single broke a record for most consecutive weeks at number two, which was only equalled in 1991 by Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy". In 1996, there was a release titled The Smurfs Go Pop! which had a hit UK single titled "I've Got a Little Puppy". The same year, the Smurfs' album Techno is Cool - Volume 1 received a platinum award for sales in excess of 1 million in Europe
