Gal Costa (born Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos on 26 September 1945) is a Brazilian singer of popular music. Her mother, Mariah Costa Penna (deceased 1993) spent hours listening to classical music during her pregnancy in hopes that Gal would be interested in music. Gal's father, Arnaldo Burgos (deceased 1960), died when Gal was 15 years old and the two would never meet.

This was likely a wise decision on Costa's part, even though the reckless abandon she displayed on Gal Costa was astonishing, for her to recklessly continue flailing down that path would've certainly led to her burning out or completely alienating the public she was trying to inform. The only questionable track on the album is "Love, Try, and Die," which has a fun, bouncy Dixieland style but is ruined by the unnecessary and terrible Louis Armstrong impersonation contributed by one of the backing vocalists. In spite of this small blunder, Legal appears near the beginning of Costa's most consistent period and should be sought out by those interested in the revolutionary period of Brazilian rock. Furthermore, Legal is a much more diverse record than her previous records, displaying influences from American blues-rock, R&B, and soul with winding, organ-driven rock closer to the sound Milton Nascimento would later latch onto and nurture with his Clube da Esquina albums.

Talk about Gal Costa - Legal

Celace
How does it sound this reissue? It doesn't seems the usual russian bootleg (like the DOL reissues of Caetano Veloso)...
Anarus
It sounds fantastic and there's actually a secret 6th track on side B that's quite nice. Weirdly enough that track isn't shown here, guess I'll add it.
Vathennece
This reissue sounds great - I've picked up a number of these Collector's Series LPs and aside from the occasional bit of surface noise (typically at the start of Side 2 for whatever reason) they look/sound wonderful.
snowball
10/10 record! and great pressing, as are most reissues on philips from 83' , sick fuzz wha guitar and many great colors and tones. Definitely high up there amongst my favorite Gal, if not my favorite. India is just as good, as is the self titled, etc... just get every gal Costa record that you can get your hands on.
Modar
Great album among Gals best, sound quality of this recording is excellent - Such a shame the label chose to release this CD with such cheap and nasty artwork. 'Serie Colecionador' is slapped all over the original artwork in the most brutal and disrespectful fashion imaginable. Imagine the public outcry if this had been done to say Sgt Peppers! 'Serie Colecionador' also suggests 'the product' is something special, yet there is nothing new or interesting like liner notes about the making of the album by the artist. Yes we get regurgitated 1980s credits and SPARS information! Also the front cover / booklet is not only paper thin in terms of content, it's also thin in the flimsy sense, a matter made worse by being cropped significantly under size, which causes the booklet to drop out when the jewel case is opened.
