Macchi never aims to be illustrative or to mimic the style of the painters depicted. In Africa Minima, Egisto Macchi elects the piano as the main driving force. Macchi was born in Grosseto, Italy, in 1928, and studied composition, piano, violin, and singing in Rome with, among others, Roman Vlad and Hermann Scherchen.
