tude Op. 10, No. 12 in C minor, known as the Revolutionary Étude or the Étude on the Bombardment of Warsaw, is a solo piano work by Frédéric Chopin written circa 1831, and the last in his first set, Etudes O. 0, dedicated "à son ami Franz Liszt" ("to his friend Franz Liszt"). In the case of the 12th Étude, the technique required in the opening bars is playing long, loud descending runs extremely fast in mainly the left hand, which forms a dominant seventh chord (or diminished seventh chord) introductory build-up to the main theme.

Spanish pianist José Iturbi (1896-1980) was a pupil of Landowska and Victor Staub at the Paris Conservatoire and after graduation in 1913 he began a successful career in Europe; however after a sensational US debut in 1929 he worked more and more in the USA where he relocated. While continuing as a successful pianist he started a parallel career as a conductor and directed many American orchestras over the next 40 years.
