Michael's Choir School (also named as SMCS, St. Mike's Choir) is a boys' semi-private school located in downtown Toronto's Garden District of Toronto, Ontario, Canada operated by a joint venture of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto, Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, and the Toronto Catholic District School Board, formerly the Metropolitan Separate School Board as its member since 1966, although the Archdiocese owns the St. Michael's Choir property.

Women's choir, a choir of adult women, high voices only, usually consisting of soprano and alto voices, two parts in each, often abbreviated as SSAA, or as soprano I, soprano II, and alto, abbreviated SSA. Men's chorus (Männerchor), a choir of adult men, low voices only, usually consisting of two tenors, baritone, and bass, often abbreviated as TTBB (or ATBB if the upper part sings falsetto in alto range). Middle school and high school is an important time, as it is when students' voices are changing. Although girls experience voice change, it is much more drastic in boys.

After a break the choral battle continues at 14:00 h at the St. Sylvestri Church with categories Sacred Choral Music a cappella and Spiritual.

The Festival brings together choirs and vocal ensembles from 19 countries around the world. In 2019, the Contest for Vocal Ensembles celebrates its 30th anniversary. Every other summer Tampere celebrates the diversity of the human voice at the festival of choral and ensemble singing. Since 1986 in the international atmosphere of the festival, old and new music, choir tradition and for instance beatboxing all coexist in harmony. In addition, workshops and free concerts draw audience interested in vocal music from around the world.
