Alice in Chains were already a big band when they released 1994's Jar of Flies (their appearance in Cameron Crowe's generation-defining 1992 film Singles took care of that), but the EP elevated them to another level both creatively and commercially.

In my opinion, their second release Dirt is great, but not nearly as phenomenal as Facelift. The powerful vocals and amazing guitar solos from Jerry Cantrell are the highlights of this album. In addition, Jerry Cantrell provided some amazing and beautiful background vocals to Layne's powerful lead vocals. This album seems more upbeat than Dirt for sure. I recently bought my second copy of this album, because I either wore the first one out or lost it. I had forgotten what an amazing record Facelift is and I am definitely glad that I repurchased it.
