The Clown is an album by Charles Mingus released in September 1957 on Atlantic Records as SD-1260. It is the follow-up to 1956's Pithecanthropus Erectus and features the improvised narration of Jean Shepherd. All the tracks were recorded on March 12, 1957, except for "The Clown", recorded on February 13 of the same year.

Carl William Mays (November 12, 1891 – April 4, 1971) was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1915 to 1929. Although he won over 200 games, 27 in 1921 alone, and was a member of four world championship teams, Mays is primarily remembered for throwing the beanball that killed Ray Chapman of the Cleveland Indians on August 16, 1920. Chapman became the only Major League player to die as a direct result of an on-field injury.

Yankees pitcher Carl Mays threw a high fastball on the inside corner that hit Ray in the head so hard that it went back to Mays, who threw it to Wally Pipp at First Base not realizing he had struck the batter. I have heard the story many times from friends like Roger Peckinpaugh (who was the Yankees shortstop in that game) and Stan Coveleski (the Indians pitcher that day) and both said they will never forget the sound they heard when the all hit Ray’s skull. Ray passed away early the next day, leaving behind a young, pregnant wife.

In its encounter with Nature, science invariably elicits a sense of reverence and awe. The very act of understanding is a celebration of joining, merging, even if on a very modest scale, with the magnificence of the Cosmos. And the cumulative worldwide build-up of knowledge over time converts science into something only a little short of a trans-national, trans-generational meta-mind. Spirit comes from the Latin word to breathe. What we breathe is air, which is certainly matter, however thin

Confession in the Catholic Church is a spiritual encounter with God through the priest. It is a fundamental part of the freedom of religion, and it is recognised in the Law of Australia and many other countries. It must remain so here in Australia. Outside of this all offences against children must be reported to the authorities, and we are absolutely committed to doing so. It is true, however, that Archbishop Hart told Australian media that he would be willing to face criminal conviction and go to jail rather than report to police information about abuse that he had received in confession

The Musical Experience is a seamlessly integrated enhanced learning package that features a thematic approach to music appreciation - each theme is described along a historical timeline. Whether it is Music to Celebrate, Music from the Stage, or Music for Mourning, the reader will associate the music presented in The Musical Experience with a life moment - enhancing the experience! To resonate with today’s music appreciation students and instructors, John Chiego has updated The Musical Experience with contemporary examples of musical selections, musicals, and music from the movies since 2000.

On his experience of seeing Earth from space, Mitchell said: That’s a powerful experience, to see Earth rise over the surface Of course, if you’re interested in catalyzing profound spiritual experiences, you don’t need to go all the way to space and back-all you have to do is practice the tried-and-true techniques of mysticism that have been developed down here on Earth. Even Edgar Mitchell knew this, and devoted much of his life after his trip to the moon to studying mysticism, yoga and psychic and paranormal phenomena.
