Gordon Giltrap - The Peacock Party flac album

Fear of the Dark is a 1978 studio album by guitarist Gordon Giltrap. It is the last of the album trilogy that started with 1976's Visionary and continued with 1977's Perilous Journey. The album was remixed and re-released in 1998. Iron Maiden who released a similarly titled album years later feature drummer Nicko McBrain who played on an earlier Giltrap album, and that Giltrap notes that the Iron Maiden logo uses a similar font to the "Gordon Giltrap" logo on this album. With this album, Gordon Giltrap shifted focus and presented us with something jazzier. The first few notes of the opener remind of Al Di Meola's distinctive style, and shows promise, but it soon becomes clear that The Peacock Party is a definitive step down from the previous trio of Visionary, Perilous Journey, and Fear Of The Dark, and that it is also a lesser album compared to the subsequent Airwaves. In short, this album is clearly the least good of Giltrap's progressive period of the late 70's and early 80's, and in all honesty, I couldn't call this Prog.

In 1979 the album THE PEACOCK PARTY was released on the PVK label. The tunes by Gordon are based on characters from the book the Peacock Party written by George E Ryder and illustrated by Alan Aldridge. This was a sequel to the somewhat better known BUTTERFLY BALL AND THE GRASSHOPPER'S FEAST. THE PEACOCK PARTY saw Gordon backed by a band of outstanding musicians such as John G. Perry (bass), Rod Edwards (keyboards), Rick Sanders (violin) and Ian Mosley (drums) and featured many outstanding tracks.
