That they found the time and desire to hit the studio was potentially just as thrilling. When the band hung it up in 2005 due to all sorts of internal conflicts, it really seemed like there would never be another Get Up Kids record.

Simple Science is an EP by American rock band The Get Up Kids. The first official release from the band since re-forming after breaking up in 2005, and the first studio recording since 2004's Guilt Show, the EP was released April 13, 2010 on vinyl and April 27, 2010 on compact disc (both through the groups newly formed Flyover Records).

The discography of The Get Up Kids, an American rock band that formed in 1995, consists of five studio albums, five singles, one live album and seven extended plays. Shortly after forming in their hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, the band signed to Doghouse Records and released their first EP, Woodson, along with their debut full-length studio album Four Minute Mile (1997).

Five years after releasing what would turn out to be their last studio album (the excellent Guilt Show), Kansas City, MO emo punk heroes the Get Up Kids reunited to ride a burgeoning new nostalgia wave and re-release and tour their seminal 1999 album, Something To Write Home About. That temporary comeback has turned permanent with Simple Science, the first of three planned self-released EPs. Though this could be an easy, albeit modest, cash-in for the group, they're not content to rest on their laurels ― there's nothing formulaic or even familiar about these first four songs.

Not so with The Get Up Kids who reunited in 2008, played several shows and secretly recorded a bunch of new songs. Rather than releasing a single full-length, these guys opted instead to release 3 EPs throughout 2010. Simple Science is the first of those EPs and thus makes it the band’s first new material since 2004’s Guilt Show. If this EP proves two things then it’s that The Get Up Kids still have what it takes and - even more so -that they are most definitely not a one trick pony.

A lot has happened to the members of the Get Up Kids since the final chords rang out in Kansas City at the band's "final" show in 2005. Matt Pryor continued releasing albums with the New Amsterdams, as well as a solo album (2008's Confidence Man) and two children's albums under the Terrible Twos moniker. So, while different and hard to compare to the rest of their catalogue, the Simple Science EP is a solid progression from their Guilt Show-era material, and leaves an appetite for the remaining parts of the proposed trilogy and hopefully much more to come from the reunited Get Up Kids.
