Paloma Blanca" (Spanish for "white dove"), often called "Una Paloma Blanca", is a song written by the Dutch musician George Baker, and first recorded and released by his band The George Baker Selection. The single was a hit throughout Europe, and was taken from the group's fifth album of the same name. The song became a hit on the . Billboard Easy Listening Singles chart on 14 February 1976 (becoming that chart's overall song for 1976) and peaked at on the .

Paloma Blanca" was the title track of the fifth album by The George Baker Selection. Running to just under three and a half minutes, and backed by "Dreamboat," the single was a big hit in many countries. The definitive recording though is that made by Jonathan King as "Una Paloma Blanca. King's version picked up an Ivor Novello Award for Record Of The Year. Unusually, the two versions were released almost simultaneously in the UK and raced up the charts together

Paloma Blanca Lyrics. When the sun shines on the mountains And the night is on the run It's a new day It's a new way And I fly up to the sun. I can feel the morning sunlight I can smell the newborn hay I can hear God's voices calling From my golden skylight way. Una paloma blanca I'm just a bird in the sky Una paloma blanca Over the mountains I fly No one can take my freedom away.

Paloma Blanca" set the bar a bit high, I do admit, and there were a few songs that almost reached it, but not quite. For the most part, the songs have a very pleasant Mexican flavor and rhythm that I find quite relaxing. George Baker Selection very expensive. One person found this helpful.

It had been almost six years since "Little Green Bag," when George Baker and his gang landed their second and final American Top 40 hit, "Paloma Blanca," in 1976. That single's on this LP, naturally, and both it and the other tracks make the zippy pop/rock of "Little Green Bag" seem as tough as Jimi Hendrix in comparison. Paloma Blanca is frothy, anonymous European pop, marrying chipper romp-in-the-country melodies with beats that borrow from disco, polka, mariachi, and pseudo-Eastern European gypsy music
