Mystery Girl is the twenty-second album by American singer Roy Orbison. It was completed in November 1988, a month before his death at the age of 52, and according to the official Roy Orbison discography by Marcel Riesco, released on the Virgin record label on January 31, 1989. It includes the hit singles "You Got It", which was co-written by Orbison and his Traveling Wilburys bandmates Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty, and "She's a Mystery to Me", written by Bono and The Edge

Album · 1988 · 11 Songs. A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. See All. From Nashville to Memphis - The Essential 60s Masters.

Roy Orbison's comeback started in 1986, when David Lynch used "In Dreams" for a pivotal sequence in his masterwork Blue Velvet. So mesmerizing was Dean Stockwell's pantomime of the 1963 hit that Orbison soon became in demand. He re-recorded his hits for a collection naturally called In Dreams, he gave a star-studded concert called Black & White Night, and then he began work with ELO leader Jeff Lynne on a comeback album.

Roy Orbison died unexpectedly while visiting his mother in Hendersonville, TN, on Dec. 6, 1988. He was only 52. A month before his passing, the man hailed as "the Caruso of Rock 'n Roll" had finished work on his first studio album of new material since 1979. Mystery Girl was recorded nearly in parallel to the first Wilburys album Vol. 1, and featured a generation-defying host of guests both playing and penning songs for the singer, including Bono and the Edge (who wrote the haunting "She's A Mystery To Me," which they play in concert occasionally), Steve Cropper, Diane Warren, The Memphis Horns, Petty's Heartbreakers

The late Roy Orbison’s first album of all-new material in ten years, Mystery Girl cloaks the epic sweep and grandeur of his classic sound in meticulous, modern production - the album encapsulates everything that made Orbison great, and for that reason it makes a fitting valedictory. There are ten songs and six producers on this record, but the sound is miraculously unified.
