Gowan - Strange Animal flac album

Gowan's 1985 album Strange Animal was his commercial breakthrough in Canada, produced by British producer David Tickle and featuring a more 'theatrical' Gowan, backed by Peter Gabriel's rhythm section players Tony Levin and Jerry Marotta. The album spawned the hit singles "A Criminal Mind", "(You're a) Strange Animal" (the story of how his friend Bruce Bradt stole his girl), "Guerilla Soldier" and "Cosmetics"  . DeYoung's absence created an opportunity for a more permanent restructuring of Styx Styx's 2003 album Cyclorama was Gowan's first studio album with the band. Gowan sings two songs on Cyclorama, "Fields of the Brave" and "More Love for the Money", both of which have an easily recognizable Gowan signature.

Less complimentary, Strange Animal perhaps has less to do with Larry Gowan's songwriting, which compares favourably to his peers at the time, than the players he miraculously procured for the recording. How a relative "nobody" in the 1980s Toronto music scene collared the "Peter Gabriel rhythm section"-the "legendary" Tony Levin, bass and stick, Jerry Marrotta, drums and percussion-and Split Enz producer, David Tickle, became a source of speculation among Toronto musicians for years. I first heard this album over 10 years ago thanks to a Canadian cousin who borrowed my WalkMan and left a tape of Lawrence Gowan's Strange Animal in it. I didn't want to give that tape back. Last year I got to meet Gowan and see him in concert several times - AMAZING - and this is the album that started it all for me - ABSOLUTELY one of the best albums in my music collection!
