Jeff Beck Group is the fourth and final studio album by The Jeff Beck Group and the second album with the line up of Jeff Beck, Bobby Tench, Clive Chaman, Max Middleton and Cozy Powell. The album was produced by Steve Cropper and often referred to as the Orange Album, because of the orange which appears prominently at the top of the front cover. During January 1972 the second Jeff Beck Group flew to the US and joined Beck at TMI Studios in Memphis, Tennessee.

Soon referred to as the Orange Album because of the picture of the fruit at the top of the cover, the LP was welcomed by fans (it reached No. 16), but mostly panned by. critics. They found the material uninspired, Tench's vocals lacking and the production boring – though most still praised Beck's guitar work. Perhaps Beck agreed with that assessment. On July 24, not even three months after the album's . release, the guitarist disbanded the group.

1972's Jeff Beck Group shows that Beck was already moving beyond his soul-rock hybrid and sowing the seeds for his exceptional mid-'70s jazz/rock fusion work. Jeff Beck Group also served as a precursor to Beck's next project, the blues-soul-rock trio Beck, Bogart & Appice. Produced by Booker T. & the .

Some of the songs they worked on were already in their stage act and unlike Rough and Ready (1971) they also recorded five cover songs for this album, including a new version of Ashford & Simpson's "I Can't Give Back the Love I Feel for You" and Carl Perkins's Sun Records release, "Glad All Over" (1957). The Cropper and Beck collaboration "Sugar Cane" was one of several songs written whilst in the studio.

Jeff Beck: In 1969, Beck recorded Beck-Ola, the second and final album with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. Nicky Hopkins was now a permanent member. He moved on to his R&B period with the JBGII and a pair of albums titled Rough And Ready (1971) and Jeff Beck Group (1972). A studio album (1973) with ex-Vanilla Fudge rhythm section Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice called Beck, Bogert & Appice and a Japan-only live album release followed.
