Singles from this album: That's When I Reach For My Revolver Come On Baby. The cover photograph depicts Moby’s grandfather holding Moby as an infant. This should have been to no one's surprise who knew his love for this music (and his past experience playing in this genre), especially those who dug the rock tracks on the previous year's Everything Is Wrong, such as "What Love" and "All That I Need Is to Be Loved

Though Moby could be commended for having the courage to diversify, he simply isn't very good at alternative rock - his voice is thin and undistinguished, his rhythms are too tight, his guitars sound anemic, and he can't write a hook.

As for Animal Rights, despite its commercial fate, it's an album that demands to be heard at least twice before deciding it's not for you. The first time, of course, is for Moby, because he asked you nicely, and the second time is for yourself, during which time you just need to remember one thing: it's perfectly fine if it's not to your tastes, but the fact that it's unlike anything else in Moby's solo catalog doesn't make it a bad album.

Like Everything Is Wrong, Animal Rights goes from one extreme to the next, swinging from contemplative, classical prettiness to screaming-guitar mayhem. But this time out, there’s less fun in between those two poles. Moby strays even further from his celebratory rave roots and pummels us with a sonic depiction of our apocalyptic society.
