The sister of the TUBULAR BELLS composer Mike Oldfield, Sally Oldfield had contributed to many of her brother's recordings before releasing this solo debut in 1978. With her mellifluous vocals and a similar multi-instrumental ability to her brother, Oldfield spins a series of Tolkien-esque tales that set her firmly in the vanguard of 1970s prog rock.

Water Bearer is a music studio album recording by SALLY OLDFIELD (Crossover Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1978 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Sally Oldfield had already had years of experience singing, adding numerous backing vocals to brother Mike Oldfield's works such as Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn and Tubular Bells. She had also done a one album wonder with her brother Mike, the SallyAngie folk duo. Her voice is befitting to progressive music, ethereal, folky and popular, take your pick. Waterbearer is her first solo release and is also an excellent debut too.

Oldfield's debut solo album, Water Bearer, was released in 1978. Her song, "Mirrors", was on the album. It peaked at in the UK Singles Chart, spanning 1978 and 1979, and remained in that chart for thirteen weeks. Since then, she has released fifteen solo albums. On the demise of her record label Bronze Records in 1984, Oldfield relocated to Germany and based her musical career there. Most of her albums from 1983 onwards were not released in the UK. She worked with many German record producers and musicians, including Gunther Mende and Candy DeRouge
