Eleanora Fagan (April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959), better known as Billie Holiday, was an American jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and music partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo

Collecting the classic Okeh and Brunswick sides that represent not only Billie Holiday at her artistic peak but also contain some of the finest small jazz combo performances of the day, these releases defied the wrath of buffs by presenting the songs in a chronological scramble and also totally avoiding outtakes. These sides were so well-mastered and pressed and the covers so attractively printed that they remain some of the best choices for listeners hoping to find some topnotch material by this artist, particularly were one to come across a copy of one of these sets in a used record pile

Billie Holiday ( MG C-161) is the third 10 inch LP album of original material by jazz singer Billie Holiday, released on Clef Records in 1954 (her final album would also be given the same title, prior to being changed to Last Recording instead). The recordings took place in 1952 and 1954. Holiday never entered the recording studio in 1953.

Meeropol made headlines when he adopted the orphan sons of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg after their parents were executed for treason in 1953.
