Welte & Sons, Freiburg and New York was a manufacturer of orchestrions, organs and reproducing pianos, established in Vöhrenbach by Michael Welte (1807–1880) in 1832. From 1832 until 1932, the firm produced mechanical musical instruments of the highest quality. The firm's founder, Michael Welte (1807-1880), and his company were prominent in the technical development and construction of orchestrions from 1850, until the early 20th century.

Welte-Mignon reproducing piano. Whereas the early acoustical recordings (phonograph, gramophone) suffered very greatly from their poor technical quality, the mechanical reproduction methods developed since 1904 (Welte-Mignon, Duo-Art, Ampico) have the advantage of being free of disturbing background noise during playback and of quite accurately reproducing the respective recording. Debussy left to posterity, besides three acoustical recordings of vocal music (1904), altogether 14 recordings of his own piano works, extant in six piano rolls, for playing on the Welte firm’s reproducing piano Mignon

Grieg also made live-recording player piano music rolls for the Hupfeld Phonola piano-player system and Welte-Mignon reproducing system, all of which survive today and can be heard. He also worked with the Aeolian Company for its 'Autograph Metrostyle' piano roll series wherein he indicated the tempo mapping for many of his pieces. Allegretto tranquillo e grazioso. Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) was a French Romantic composer, pianist, organist, and teacher. Born in Paris on 9th October 1835, Saint-Saëns was a child prodigy. He had lessons with Camille-Marie Stamaty and Alexandre Pierre François Boëly, going on to the Paris Conservatoire in 1848, where he was taught by Fromental Halévy. He soon came to the notice - and earned the admiration of - such eminent composers as Charles Gounod, Gioacchino Rossini, Hector Berlioz, and Franz Liszt.
