Soul" is a song released by the Canadian-American rock band Buffalo Springfield in June 1967, from their second studio album Buffalo Springfield Again. Mr. Soul" is about Neil Young's personal problems with fame and disregard towards rock stardom. It was written by Young after experiencing an epilepsy attack after an early show with Buffalo Springfield in San Francisco.

Produced by Brian Stone & Charles Greene. Album Buffalo Springfield Again.

In January of that year, after Palmer was again deported for drug possession, Jim Messina, who had worked as engineer on the band's second album, was hired as a permanent replacement on bass. During this period Young began to appear less and less frequently, and he often left. In 1997, Buffalo Springfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A four-disc box set assembled by Young, Buffalo Springfield, was released in 2001. A further box set ''''What's That Sound? Complete Albums Collection'''' was released in 2018 by Rhino Records.

Soul" was written and performed by Neil Young, the contested frontman for Buffalo Springfield, backed up by co-frontmen Richie Furay and Stephen Stills. It forms the first track of their second album Buffalo Springfield Again. One hardly knows where to begin with this song's lyrics. In just three short verses with no chorus, Young practically flaunts his lyrical prowess at this early stage in his career. He invokes both Beatles and early proto-punk, in verses that manage to be both angry and whimsical at the same time

Neil Young once claimed he wrote "Mr. Soul," this album's hard-stomping opener and only hit, in less than five minutes. Such was the brilliance-and impetuousness-of Buffalo Springfield's embattled members. Stills' sprawling "Bluebird" remains one of the most underrated epics of the '60s
