Parallels is the sixth studio album by progressive metal band Fates Warning, released on October 29, 1991 through Metal Blade Records. The album reached No. 20 on the . Billboard Heatseekers chart. James LaBrie performs harmony vocals on the song "Life in Still Water" due to Ray Alder having to leave Toronto and not having time to finish with the backing vocals. Producer Terry Brown came up with the idea of bringing in LaBrie, as he had just joined Dream Theater and had a similar style

Fates Warning : Parallels,альбом, рецезия, трек-лист, mp3, тексты песен. It is known that all the books apart from the beginning have an end too. In Parallels the song ''The road goes on forever'' is that one which ends it and at the same time is a given promise from those who do not want to stay back in their life and they will let their feelings guide them. Well this is my thought and do not take it for granted, because some others may have a different opinion. There are many poeople who say that Parallels is a commercial album and they wonder how this album can be a real example of progressive metal.

1991's 'Parallels', which was my introduction to Fates Warning, is a continuation of where the band had been going with previous album 'Perfect Symmetry'. The power metal influences of their early days were long gone, replaced by a more technical and methodical approach, and with more emphasis on melody than speed. I was fairly new to progressive metal when I came across Fates Warning, a band who were influential in the genres early days.

Possibly Fates Warning's biggest commercial if not artistic success, 1991's Parallels was ironically also the closest the Connecticut natives ever came to sounding like their nemesis, the wildly popular Queensrÿche. While definitely not the most representative album of Fates Warning's classic sound, Parallels remains an ideal first purchase for fans of traditional '80s metal.

All tracks written by Jim Matheos.

What I got was rather disappointing. The first song, Leave the Past Behind starts out with a prog metal flair but soon transforms into something very much like a slower number by Queensryche, or perhaps rather by a Queensryche cover band

At all. I'm not sure why, as everyone seems to think of it as of their better albums, if not their best, yet it simply leaves me feeling completely and utterly underwhelmed. I don't know what Fates Warning was trying to do with this album, but I really don't get it. Try as I might, I don't particularly enjoy Parallels (or its slightly more boring twin, Inside Out). While Parallels receives its heaps of praise, I think I'll go back to The Spectre Within or APSoG, as, at least for me, both are far superior to the uninteresting 45 minutes of uninspired prog rock. Through the cracks in the wall - 80%. autothrall, February 9th, 2010.

Inside Out is an album released in 1994 by Fates Warning. The album continues with the commercial sound that Parallels began, but was not received as well. It was the last to feature long-time bassist Joe DiBiase, who left after its release, as well as the last to feature guitarist Frank Aresti until his return to band in 2005. Aresti later appeared on their 2013 album Darkness in a Different Light as a full-time member and on the 2016 album Theories of Flight as a guest.

Released in 1991, Parallels was a landmark of a progressive album, sparking a long line of fuel that would ignite the public. If you are familiar with the band, then you are probably aware that Mark Zonder is a rabid squirrel on the drums.
