New technologies implemented by the mill in the early 2000 significantly reduced the aroma, but it can still be detected, particularly on hot, dry days. The song opens up with the spoken declaration: "Tacoma has a very.

The Aroma of Tacoma takes your breath away You can tell it, you can smell it, when you're fourteen miles away From the great Olympic Mountains to the tide flats by the shore that aroma will be with us for now and ever more As you drive along the highway the scenery is sublime But the flowers smell like pulp mill - almost. all the time The Aroma of Tacoma'll cure a head cold any day In fact we guarantee it to take your breath away

James Buchanan Brady (August 12, 1856 – April 13, 1917), also known as Diamond Jim Brady, was an American businessman, financier and philanthropist of the Gilded Age. Brady was born in New York City to an Irish immigrant family. He was born into humble circumstances on the far lower West Side of Manhattan, the son of a saloon owner. Brady worked his way up from bellhop and courier.

The Aroma of Tacoma has been cited as the reason behind jokes about Tacoma once frequently made by residents elsewhere in Western Washington. Journalist and author Timothy Egan called it "one of the longest lasting nicknames in the Pacific Northwest"  . A rugby tournament held since the 1970s is called the "Tacoma Aroma", as well as a hip-hop band from the Tacoma area.

Diamond Jim is a 1935 biographical film based on the published biography Diamond Jim Brady by Parker Morell. The screenplay by Preston Sturges never lets the lurid facts of Brady's life get in the way of the story
