Part of the Light is the seventh studio album by Ray LaMontagne, released on May 18, 2018, via RCA Records. Such a Simple Thing" was released as the lead single. All songs written by Ray LaMontagne.

Part of the Light finds Ray LaMontagne back on the more familiar territory of hooks and choruses, folkier offerings and psychedelic hues that let the sunshine i. Having established a soporific miasma, he shakes you from the trance with As Black As Blood Is Blue which harks back to the snaky and squally shapes of the previous album as he sings about the light of electric soul, though, despite that the lyrics might claim, this one’s unlikely to be all over the Radio.

LaMontagne's 7th Album, produced solely by him. If you haven't heard him, do yourself a favor a get his earlier work. Use it as an introduction to his musical journey.

We live in the age of the unreal. He knows the power of the spectral and the flesh, the emotional and the intangible, and his seventh album ‘Part Of The Light’ finds him straddling the divide more confidently than ever. Reeling in the Floydish psych rock indulgences of 2016’s ‘Ouroboros’ (recorded with My Morning Jacket’s Jim James), LaMontagne wraps that record’s afterglow aura around the sort of playful pastoral melodies that won him Grammys as the backwoods Nick Drake back in the ’00s.

Part of the Light" is another interesting chapter in Ray LaMontagne's growing catalogue. It is a slight step away from the concept-themed Ouroboros. This album shows him largely abandoning his early folk sound in favor of 60's retro, although a few beams of Trouble are here in the tracks "It's Always Been You" and "Let's Make it Last". I mostly hear echoes of Supernova here, which is not a bad thing. He also uses fully distorted guitars on "As Black as Blood is Blue" which is new.

LaMontagne released his seventh studio album, Part of the Light, on May 18, 2018. The album is produced solely by LaMontagne.

Talk about Ray Lamontagne - Part Of The Light

Sirara
Strange packaging. I gave it a paper sleeve as soon as I opened it. Record sounds good an has no surface noise. Nice album.
Dagdardana
My copy is fine. Sounds wonderful. Nice pressing and seems well engineered.
Zepavitta
My copy must have gotten some of that bad stuff from the PVC sleeve while in transit, because the record's got some of the worst surface noise I've ever heard.
Monam
As does mine-- and I've tried three copies. Doubts about this pressing quality.
Lightwind
It's a thick top-loading PVC cover, not the flimsy ones typically used for picture discs and the like, but still.. with PVC and the risk of off-gassing, I'll be buying a blank generic cover and sleeving this disc in that, and putting this PVC cover away with all the other PVC covers I have. Hope this doesn't become a trend to show off color/clear vinyl pressings.
Gaeuney
Vinyl sounds great, a mix of original Ray tracks like “Such a Simple Thing” and “To the Sea” then edgier tracks “As Black As Blood Is Blue”. The more I listen the more I enjoy it. Worth the vinyl purchase! Interesting packaging, I sleeved my copy as it didn’t come with one.
Topmen
The pressing is cut by Chris Bellman. My copy is flat, centered and sounds good. I also really like the music!
Zieryn
It is mastered by Bob Ludwig! Bob is a guarantor for old muffeld sound! So I will not by it. We will see when anyone has listen to this!
Llanonte
Has anyone given this a spin yet? Liking the album but hesitant to pull the trigger on the vinyl after seeing the packaging. Hoping it sounds great, so would appreciate any insight!
Kazigrel
The mastering and recording quality is great. The pressing is not great-- it's rather poor-- especially for music with lots of spaces and quiet passages. All three copies I've tried suffer from non-fill distortion and excessive and very noticable surface noise. There are places where the vinyl is dead silent-- but enough bad spots to negate that.
DarK-LiGht
I was also hesitant with packaging and clear vinyl. I am thrilled with the quality.
invincible
Yes I just got a copy today. Packaging is interesting. Hard plastic sleeve with lyric sheets for each song. No sleeve for the record. That being said its completely flat, not scratched (so far) and sounds good. Probably gonna sleeve it myself.
