Vivian Blaine is most known for her spunky performance as Miss Adelaide which she did on broadway and the film. After that Vivian recorded this good album of songs from the musicals Pal Joey and Annie with a Gun. Glenn Osser arranges Pal Joey and Hal Mooney does the Annie with a Gun side. I was already familiar with Glenn's past arrangements like his work on The Classic Della. I wasn't surprised by his work here but Hal Mooney's is just as good.
Vivian Blaine (November 21, 1921 – December 9, 1995) was an American actress and singer, best known for originating the role of Miss Adelaide in the musical theater production of Guys and Dolls, as well as appearing in the subsequent film version, in which she co-starred with Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra. Actress/singer Vivian Blaine was at the height of her success in 1956 when she signed a recording contract with Mercury Records, having appeared the previous fall in the movie version of Guys and Dolls with Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando, reprising her original role as Miss Adelaide from the 1950 stage version. This led to the notion that there were two different albums when there was really only one.
Big Vivian Blaine fan from her work on both the stage and film version of Guys and Dolls. Blaine, born in Newark, NJ in 1921, originated the role of Miss Adelaide, Nathan Detriot’s oft neglected girlfriend, on Broadway. She also performed on other stage productions as well as films with a good repertoire of both under her belt. Towards the end of her career, she had successfully transitioned to TV, with guest spots on various shows of the time. For a sample, I went with Zip from Pal Joey. From Annie, I went with There’s No Business Like Show Business. Honestly, I liked all the Annie selections, but I felt this was the best version of this song from all the albums, except maybe the original (which I believe I already posted a version on an earlier compilation). Pretty good little record and I am a bit embarrassed it took me so long to post it. Satisfactory.
