Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor (April 12, 1915 – December 17, 1975) was an American Chicago blues guitarist and singer. Taylor was born in Natchez, Mississippi, in 1915, though some sources say 1917. He initially played the piano and began playing the guitar when he was 20. He moved to Chicago in 1942. He was famous among guitar players for having six fingers on both hands, a condition called polydactyly

Nome real: Theodore Roosevelt Taylor. Perfil: Born: April 12, 1915 in Natchez, MS, USA Died: December 17, 1975 in Chicago, IL, USA Hound Dog Taylor was an American blues guitarist and singer. He was best known for his raw vocal style and searing slide guitar, using a cheap Teisco del Rey guitar and Sears Roebuck amplifier to great advantage. He was a part of 'House Rockers' band.
In many respects, you could call Hound Dog Taylor a cult artist. Respected by bluesmen and critics alike, he built a small, devoted following across America simply by constently touring. There were no hits and very few covers of hs songs, but his rowdy concerts and incendiary records on Alligator convinced any who heard him. In the process, he put Alligator Records on the blues map, so it only makes sense that the label return the favor with Hound Dog Taylor: A Tribute, one of the few blues tributes that really works

Hound Dog Taylor and the HouseRockers appeared at the second Ann Arbor Blues Festival in 1970 playing to thousands of cheering college kids. When his Alligator album hit the streets in 1971, Taylor's transition from local hero to national and international blues icon was almost immediate. He began touring the country, continuing to win new, young fans. And he never changed a bit. Taylor played his music with furious abandon whether he was at Florence's on the South Side of Chicago or entertaining college kids at Yale or Harvard. Nobody but nobody brings the house down with a frenzy.
