2: The Woodwind Years compiles 18 performances that otherwise haven't appeared on a Lambchop album: compilation appearances, B-sides, contributions to split singles, unreleased alternate takes, and one brand new number, "Gettysburg Address.

The Decline of Country and Western Civilization, Pt. 2 is a 2006 album by Lambchop compiling out-takes from their previous albums. The album was titled "Part 2" because a similar rarities compilation (sharing several of the same tracks) called The Decline of Country and Western Civilization was released in Europe around the same time. The country-tinged collective known to the world as Lambchop will not be mistaken for Panic! At The Disco or Fall Out Boy anytime soon. What they have been known for since truly breaking into larger circles with Nixon is making some great music that can't be categorized without using three or four hyphens or "meets" in the description. With a chronological track listing, Lambchop kicks things off with the subtle, relaxing al. ountry feel of "My Cliché". The tune, from a single released in 1994, has Wagner's fragile, wavering voice gliding deftly over some sweet pedal steel guitar accents that draw you in quickly and quietly. Quick there goes my mind," Wagner sings in a way that melds the vocal styles of Lou Reed and Cat Stevens.

On the two volumes of The Decline of Country and Western Civilization- one from German label City Slang and the other from the band's American label Merge- Lambchop gather a gaggle of rarities and oddities, tracks from label samplers and early attempts at songs that would later find homes on What Another Man Spills, Nixon, or Is a. Woman. For the most part, however, despite these redundancies, the two volumes don't cancel each other out, but rather complement each other nicely. Not that there's an official retrospective to compare them to, but these compilations form an engaging alternative Lambchop history, telling more about the band's experimentation and evolution, its range and reach, than any "best of" ever could. Lambchop's music is on country's map, but they take a winding route via 1970s funk and soul, folk, Americana, and late-80s college rock.
