Call the Comet is the third studio album by English musician Johnny Marr. It was released on 15 June 2018 by New Voodoo and Warner Bros.
referencing Call The Comet, LP, Album, NVLP004. On the 3rd studio album under his name, the former Smiths guitarist delivers another batch of well-written & immaculately produced, soaring indie pop/rock tunes. Marr doesn’t have Morrissey’s voice, but his vocals are more than adequate, and his guitar-while never the only focus-shines through with a refined brilliance. His real strength may simply be that he uses his natural talent to full effect: presentation, arrangement and quality of songwriting all sound like the work of a consummate professional
Johnny Marr‘s flowery and kaleidoscopic guitarwork offset against the dour and foreboding musings of Morrissey created that oddly obverse yet symbiotic dynamic that made The Smiths so essential. The dissonant pianos and sombre post-rock guitars of ‘Walk Into The Sea’ makes for one of most experimental peaks of the album, while the electro-noir ‘New Dominions’ sees Marr wonder left-field and conquer new ground once again. Call The Comet’ is Marr’s most assured solo effort to date. Rather than wallow in the mire of the now, Marr has dreamt of a better tomorrow. In doing so, he’s built one for himself.
Marr channeled that thought experiment into Call the Comet, his third and most thematically ambitious solo album. Despite its sci-fi framing, Call the Comet isn’t a concept record, nor does it sound especially futuristic. The album comes into focus, on opening track Rise, via a pulsating guitar line that faintly echoes the tremolo riff that fueled How Soon Is Now? -and that isn’t the only moment that plays on the legacy of the Smiths. Marr stuck to this template on 2014’s Playland, and he doesn’t really shake things up on Call the Comet, either. Like its two predecessors, the album was produced by the guitarist in conjunction with James Doviak, who has been in Marr’s orbit since he joined the Boomslang tour in 2003, and their comfortable chemistry is evident in the album’s cozy familiarity.
It might be best to appreciate Call The Comet as a sublime soundtrack, possibly the most atmospheric, widescreen guitar album you'll hear all year.
Johnny Marr has had a varied and interesting career. Best known as the guitarist (and one of the two main creative forces) of the '80s British pop-rock giants The Smiths, in the thirty-plus years since that band's demise, he's been a member of The Pretenders, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse, and The Cribs, and has done session work with a list of artists as long as a. Russian winter. Call the Comet is Marr's third solo album, following on the heels of 2013's The Messenger and 2014's Playland. He also put out a live recording, Adrenalin Baby, in 2015). The Messenger was absolutely first-rate, and while Playland was much less consistent, even that one had some really good songs, most notably the single "Easy Money". Call the Comet finds him back in top form.

Includes FREE MP3 version of this album. Especially the last song, A Different Gun. It reminds me of the first time I heard Johnny's guitars on Electronic's "Get the Message.
